Carmeuse has built a leading or strong position in most of its core territories. It enjoys long-term relationships with its key accounts and, within what is generally considered a commodity minerals sector, has developed into a multinational business with in-depth knowledge of its customers’ needs providing solutions tailored to the different end uses and markets.

In recent years Carmeuse has made significant advances in sales effectiveness across Europe by recruiting strong area sales managers and introducing professional sales talent to critical territories, developing sales skills and teamwork, and improving the sales process across the organisation.

Now that the regional organisations are strengthened, senior management is to focus on strategy, new business initiatives and on core organisation processes including marketing planning, sales budgeting and reporting.

New strategic initiatives are now under way to provide integrated solutions built on Carmeuse operational and technical strengths and market presence. These represent important opportunities for growth in the value offered to the market.

With the associated realignment of responsibilities within the senior management team, Carmeuse will appoint a new V-P Sales & Marketing.
 
VP Sales & Marketing
The V-P Sales & Marketing is a member of the Executive Committee, reporting to the CEO, and a key contributor to setting and implementing strategy for the business.

He or she is the team leader for the international sales community, assuming responsibility for sales excellence across the region, working closely with the area managers, area sales managers and customer service.

External elements of this sales leadership include effective management of key multinational accounts, managing relationships with important influencers and strategic partners, and representing the company in appropriate trade forums.

The V-P Sales & Marketing has direct line responsibility for the Marketing Director and the marketing team. He or she will have overall responsibility for developing and implementing sales, marketing and product development programs, both short and long range, to achieve company growth objectives and strategy. One of the key tasks is to ensure effective integration of the market plans with activities of the sales organisation.

He or she will also work closely with leadership of the new Integrated Solutions initiatives to leverage the support and capabilities of the sales and marketing communities.

This activity shows how Carmeuse expects to develop strong habits of working across the geographical organisation and functions in project teams, ‘communities’ or ‘tribes’. The new V-P Sales & Marketing will be an important advocate and example in such ways of thinking and working.
 
The Individual

Qualifying criteria include:
  • A relevant degree in business or a technical field, and extensive experience in sales and in sales and marketing management within one or more multinational organisations with a strong market oriented culture.
  • Senior experience within a major industrial commodity business. Candidates may come from a variety of business sectors such as basic chemicals, industrial minerals, base plastic polymers, cement.
  • A record of success in leading, coaching and developing multinational teams within a variety of organisation structures, reporting lines and project based groups.
  • An interest in the development of business processes, in market planning and implementation, and in good sales management practice.
  • The seniority and credibility to work at board level both internally and with key accounts, and the practical skills to be effective with people at all levels across the international organisation.
  • A mature team player, who can contribute constructively to a multi-functional management team. The intellectual ability and standing to bring forward and build confidence and consensus in new ideas and initiatives within an established and successful organisation, the patience and determination to achieve effective implementation, and the personality and persistence to achieve the associated cultural change.
  • Fluent written and spoken English, plus excellent written communication skills. Additional foreign languages would be valuable, in particular a good level of French.
 
The Rewards
This is a senior position, reporting to the CEO. To attract the right candidate, we anticipate providing an attractive salary and benefits package appropriate to the level of the position and the experience of the successful candidate.
 
The position is based at the Carmeuse headquarters in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium. Candidates should be prepared to live within commuting distance, and to travel regularly on business to the company's other locations and to visit customers together with members of the local sales teams. Support will be provided for relocation where appropriate.
